Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  [Mt 11-28-29

Praying God’s Word with the Holy Spirit:   Learning to ask God for the right things  for yourself,  loved ones and friends

Hear the Spirit on “Knowing God’s Will.”

Colossians 1

Since the day we heard about you,
we have not stopped
praying for you and
asking God to fill you with
the knowledge of his will
through all spiritual wisdom
and understanding.

And we pray this in order that you
may live a life worthy of the Lord and
may please him in every way:
bearing fruit in every good work,
growing in the knowledge of God,
being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might
so that you may have
great endurance
and patience,
and joyfully giving thanks to the Father,
who has qualified you
to share in the inheritance of the saints
in the kingdom of light.

For he has rescued us from
the dominion of darkness
and brought us into
the kingdom of the Son he loves,
in whom we have
redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

A Prayer based on Colossians 1

[Where underlined, changed the name to the group or church or category for whom you are praying. Where entirely blank, say their names.]

Lord, since I have become aware of your divine call to pray more deeply for these pastors, _____, whom I know are working to spread the good news,
I have not stopped
praying for them and
asking You to fill them with
the knowledge of Your will
through all spiritual wisdom
and understanding that comes
only from Your Spirit.

And Lord, by your Spirit, also work powerfully and deeply in me. Then, I will continue to humbly pray for them daily. Each day I will ask You
to fill ______ with
your knowledge and wisdom.

Lord, I pray this so that each of us
will live a life worthy of your Son,
Christ Jesus, and
will please You in every way:
bearing fruit in every good work,
growing in the knowledge of You,
and being strengthened with all power according to Christ Jesus’ glorious might.
By your gracious gift of Christ’s power,
we will be supplied the strength
to combat and defeat all temptations.
Then, each one of us will witness daily
to the great endurance
and patience that comes from Christ.
Then, we will joyfully give thanks to
You, Father,
who have qualified us
to share in the inheritance of the saints
in Your Son’s kingdom of light.

For Christ Jesus, Your Son,
in his mercy and love for us,
has rescued us from
the dominion of darkness
and brought us into
his kingdom.

Thank you Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Yes, I thank you, Father, that you love us so deeply as your children that you were graciously willing to sacrifice your only begotten Son, in whom we have
redemption, the forgiveness of our sins.

[Prayer inspired by Colossians 1:9-13 in the NIV]
